Eggs Florentine at Mhor 84

15. Jan, 2015

The stuff I ate yesterday was eggs florentine at the wonderful Mhor 84 Motel

Unfortunately I was so excited about the eggs florentine (as was my lunch partner) that we both ate it before we remembered to take a photo. We also had strong, smooth, flat whites. I do judge a place by the quality of its coffee - and these were perfect.

Take my word for it, this is the loveliest place to eat eggs florentine - it's a very laid back, cool, funky restaurant, bar and motel just off the A84 at the Balquhidder turnoff, a few minutes towards the Highlands after Strathyre. It's owned by the folk who run posh Monachyle Mhor Hotel. They're just brilliant at furnishing a room and making it look effortlessly cool using random junk shop finds from chintzy teacups to old pianos and upcycled furniture, all arranged in a homely way. They also know that good food is essential.

They do other stuff apart from eggs florentine, too, of course... eggs benedict, eggs royale (with smoked salmon), various breakfasts, a skinny bitch salad (with leaves, toasted almonds, seeds & beans), plus some heftier burger and steak dishes and an awesome seafood chowder. GO THERE. You won't regret it.

So, those eggs florentines were served on their own sourdough (made at Mhor Bread, up the road in Callander), toasted, with butter, 2 perfectly poached eggs on top with super-yellow yolks, hollandaise sauce all over, and just wilted spinach.

Verdict: A perfect lunchtime treat in one of my fave places to eat and be
Score: 10/10
Would I have it again? Oh yeah
